My superpower is helping people feel calm, happy, and safe when Mom brings me to the office! I love curling up in laps, giving soft nose boops, and listening very carefully when someone requires a friend. I don’t say much (just a little “woof!” now and then), but I’m very good at making you happy.

Dorothy Paul, EdD, LMFT

Dorothy Paul holds a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and a Master's degree in Educational Psychology – Marriage and Family Counseling and School Counseling.

She has over 28 years of teaching experience in her local school district as well as at two institutions of higher education. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Nevada for 24 years, Dorothy has also served as an approved AAMFT supervisor for the past 11 years. Additionally, she has been a trainer for a national grant on infant adoption (6 years) and has conducted numerous workshops/trainings for parents, counselors, and school staff over the past 26 years on topics such as parenting, stress management, and grief.

Mindfulness has become a growing part of her focus and practice with students, interns, colleagues, and family and friends over the past few years as Dorothy has worked to teach students various ways to reduce stress in their lives (through the small groups she held each school year). I was born in McKeesport Pennsylvania and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1973.

I was born in McKeesport Pennsylvania and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1973. I’m proud to have spent much of my life learning, growing, and serving families in the community I call home. I graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 1989 and continued my education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1996. My early career and education gave me a strong understanding of child development, learning styles, and the unique challenges children can experience both at home and at school.

As my passion for helping children and families continued to grow, I returned to school and earned my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2017. Today, I work with clients of all ages, with a special focus on children and adolescents.

I believe counseling with children should be engaging, comfortable, and meaningful. Rather than expecting a child or teen to simply sit and talk, I enjoy creating sessions around their individual interests. Whether they love art, games, sports, superheroes, Minecraft, music, or something completely unique to them, I use those interests as a way to build trust and create opportunities for communication.

Through play, creative activities, conversation, and individualized therapeutic strategies, I help young people express feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Sessions are designed to help them better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, improve communication, build confidence, and practice skills they can use in everyday life.

One of my favorite parts of being a counselor is discovering what makes each child or teen unique. When young people feel heard, accepted, and genuinely interested in, they are often much more willing to open up and participate in the counseling process.

My goal is to provide a supportive environment where children, teens, adults, and families feel comfortable being themselves while developing the skills they need to navigate challenges and move forward with greater confidence.
